Letter from Terri's Brother
Week of May 9, 2011

Dear Friends,

On Sunday, April 17th, my family attended the Grand Opening and dedication ceremony to the memory of my sister, Terri Schiavo, at New Beginnings Community Center in Medford, NY. The New Beginnings Center provides therapy and rehabilitation exclusively to persons with cognitive disabilities.

Allyson Scerri, the founder and CEO of this new state of the art rehabilitation facility, contacted my family through Terri’s Life & Hope Network several months ago expressing her desire to remember my sister in a special way on the site of New Beginning Community Center.

It was soon after, we learned that entire center would be dedicated to Terri’s memory and all others like her who did not have the chance for continued therapy and rehabilitation.

The Grand Opening of New Beginnings was a very special day with nearly 400 supporters, caregivers, brain injury survivors and their families in attendance. Board Member, Tom Archer, whose son Ben experienced a traumatic brain injury, said, “If you believe enough, you can make anything happen.” This statement hit home as the very words of my sister, which gave the inspiration to the name of Terri’s Network, is “Where there’s Life, there’s Hope.”

There always remains hope for the cognitively disabled and their families. Our desire is that New Beginnings will be the first of many health care facilities where the traumatic brain injured and cognitively disabled can receive proper ongoing care and rehabilitation.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone at New Beginnings for their unconditional love and commitment to helping those with cognitive brain injuries and their families.

Please take a few minutes to view some of the pictures that were taken throughout this very memorable day.

New Rehab Center Dedicated to Memory of Terri Schiavo

(First Things) – This is nice. But first, a little background. One of the fights in the Terri Schiavo case involved attempts by the family to obtain rehabilitation for her, which she had not received for years before her death. The family had declarations from very well regarded rehab experts who stated under penalty of perjury that they thought Terri could be improved.
